What You’ll Learn

Better Footage Begins Before You Press Record

Successful underwater videos are rarely created by simply switching on the camera and filming everything in sight. Good results begin with preparation, appropriate settings and a clear idea of the story you want to tell.

Your Perth Scuba instructor will help you understand how water depth, available light, visibility and camera movement affect your footage. You’ll also explore different shot types and learn how a combination of wide scenes, marine-life encounters, diver footage and detail shots can make your finished video more engaging.

Dive Safely While Using a GoPro

A camera should never become more important than your dive. The course places strong emphasis on maintaining buoyancy, monitoring your depth and air supply, staying with your buddy and remaining aware of your surroundings.

You’ll learn how to position yourself for a shot while protecting the marine environment and avoiding contact with reefs, wrecks and delicate aquatic life. These skills will help you become a better underwater camera operator—and a more responsible diver.

Edit and Share with GoPro Quik

Capturing the footage is only the beginning. You’ll learn how to use the GoPro Quik video-editing app to select clips, create a logical sequence and produce a polished video that captures the feeling of your dive.

By understanding basic storytelling and editing techniques, you can transform a collection of disconnected clips into a memorable dive video suitable for sharing with friends, family or your social-media audience.

What You’ll Need

You will need a suitable GoPro camera and underwater housing, along with access to a compatible smartphone or tablet with the GoPro Quik app installed. Perth Scuba will advise you of any additional equipment requirements before your course.
